Last weekend, my husband and I got to load up all four of our kiddos, drop them off at their grandparents house and go away by ourselves for the entire weekend. It was AWESOME! Honestly, it could not have come at a more perfect time. Last week, I was running on fumes, which was easily identified by my lack of patience and short fuse.
However, after an amazingly relaxing stay at The Lindley House, where no one interrupted my sleep, a scrumptious breakfast was served every morning, where I didn’t have to prepare one single meal but instead got to enjoy my husband’s company and some much needed quiet time, I came back completely energized and regained my super mommy powers!
I highly encourage you to schedule a mommy getaway. Do not feel bad for needing some time away from your kids. I love, love, love my kiddos but I also know myself. I need alone time. When I don’t get it, I feel myself spiraling into a negative place that is not fun for anyone, so I feel it is best for me to get what I need so I can serve my family better. I can’t give them what I don’t have and neither can you. So, grab your husband, a group of girl friends, or enjoy time with yourself by scheduling a few hours or a couple of days to unwind.
Need some ideas of where to go or what to do? No problem!
If you only have an hour or two….
1 – Enjoy food someone else has cooked at a café or at the Foodie Fair on May 6th.
2 – Pamper yourself by getting a manicure, a massage, or both!
3 – Hike at Lake Arcadia or walk around Lake Hefner.
4 – Let the creative juices flow at Emily’s Craft House.
5 – Climb the rolling wooden ladders into a haven of books at Full Circle Bookstore.
6 – Go on a date with your husband anywhere!
If you have a day or two, head to a bed & breakfast outside the city or a hotel in downtown OKC.
Here are a few B&Bs about an hour from OKC that I’ve enjoyed:
The Lindley House in Duncan is a wonderful place to relax with lots of freedom and space to move around the grounds. The owners are a delight. They make sure your stay is perfect and give the best recommendations of places in the area to enjoy. My first visit there was with a girl’s retreat and I enjoyed it so much that I was excited to take my husband there this year. They have three cottages with Jacuzzi tubs as well as rooms within a historical home to enjoy. This time we stayed in the Executive suite, which included a master bedroom with a king size bed and fireplace, a library/study, a large bathroom with a shower and a separate tub, and a living room.
Stardust Inn in Medicine Park is tucked away in the Wichita Mountains. The wildlife refuge is a short drive away and ready for exploring. The four western themed rooms have their own private entrance from a wraparound porch, comfy beds and Jacuzzi tubs. If you are interested in hiking and taking in fresh air, it is well worth it.
Aaron’s Gate in Guthrie is very secluded. This is the place to go if you don’t want to see anyone including the owners. There are four themed cottages with kitchen, hot tub, Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and king size beds. We stayed in the French Hen cottage and enjoyed it’s elegance.
Whatever energizes and refreshes you, schedule time to go do it! Now, all you need to do is find someone to watch your kids. Don’t worry, I’ll give you some tips for that next time.
