Confession: I have a small love affair with school and office supplies. So much so that my sister-in-law gave me a stapler and a tape dispenser for my birthday (this is not a joke).
So when back to school rolls around I get downright giddy with all of the fresh pens and paper and folders neatly lining the aisles of the grocery store. Organization galore! Pretty pens! Binders for days!
But where to begin? We’ve linked to school supply lists for metro schools to help you get started. And don’t forget about tax-free weekend for new clothes and shoes!
And as you shop, remember these quick tips:
1. Shop Early
The early bird gets the worm. Or in this case, the early bird gets first dibs on the must-have items for the school year. Get shopping before things are picked over!
2. Price Match
The Sunday Circular is your friend here. Target & Wal-Mart price match competitor’s ads (even Amazon!) so take a few minutes to browse the ads before you head out to shop.
3. Stock up
Think about things that your children will need replenished throughout the year & grab them while they’re on sale. Pens, pencils, and notebook paper all fall into this category. You’ll thank yourself later for having this on hand when your child comes home and says he or she is out of pencils and needs new ones TODAY.
4. Basics are Best
No need to overpay for notebooks with special designs. By something plain and encourage your child to “customize” it themselves with photos, their own artwork, etc.
5. If All Else Fails, Amazon Prime
Listen. There is exactly nothing wrong with doing all of the above from the comfort of your own couch. The great thing about the digital age is that we don’t have to drive all over town to locate the very last primary notebook on the planet. Amazon will have that for you and it will arrive on your doorstep in 2 days. Bliss.
