Help! I Live WIth Extroverts

Hello, my name is Lauren, and I am an introvert. I prefer one-on-one chats to large groups.  I avoid small talk because I also happen to be awkward. Home is my happy place. And silence is beautiful. During this time of “social distancing,” I really feel like this is my time to shine.

But I have a small problem…or two.

My husband and my daughter. They are the epitome of the term extrovert. They love non-stop interaction. They can make a friend anywhere. And being on the go is their preferred method of functioning. “Social distancing” is torture for them.

So how are we going to get through the next few weeks?

Get outside.

Spring could not come at a better time. We are fortunate to be able to have the ability to go run around in the yard and soak up some sunshine. Sometimes just walking outside of the house is enough for my two extroverts. Plan backyard picnics. Blow bubbles. Just running around and chasing the dogs. Something to allow them freedom.

Connect with others.

Thank goodness for FaceTime. We already utilize this to talk with family members out of state. However, it is now going to be used to connect with those we cannot visit for the time being. Now we can show our family in Texas the new tricks we have learned. We can call grandparents to check-in and say we love them.

Take advantage of technology.

While actually visiting these places is not possible, we can take advantage of virtual tours of over 2,500 museums and galleries from all over the world. We can also still view our favorite animal friends OKC Zoo via live feeds from their Facebook pages. There have been so many generous companies offering free resources during time of unexpected closure.

To be honest, I am kind of loving this unexpected extra time with my family. We have been able to connect more. And I have been able to show my extroverts that introverts really do know how to have fun! How are you occupying your bonus family time?
