7 Things Moms Should STOP Worrying About

As moms we worry. Most of us start worrying the very moment we see that positive sign on the pregnancy test. Then follows the 9 months of pregnancy, and of course the nerve wracking delivery. After those things have passed, new worries begin to pop up. We worry and stress about EVERYTHING. Breastfeeding, sleep, growth, solid foods, potty training…. the list can go on and on.worried-girl-413690_640

But some things just aren’t meant to be worried about. These are just a few:

1. Breastfeeding/bottle feeding:

Guess what, there is no right answer to this debate besides FEED YOUR BABY. Whichever you chose to do, you are winning because you are feeding your baby!

2. Co-sleep or not to co-sleep:

I heard loud and clear all of the cons of co-sleeping. I tried not to do it, but guess what? I ended up letting my kids come and sleep in my bed when they needed to. Why? Because I can’t function like a normal human being without sleep. So do your research and chose what suits you and your family. That’s the only thing that matters!
To buy or make solid foods: Again whatever you chose to do, you are feeding your baby. Winning!

3. Potty training:

Okay, it’s confession time. You can call me lazy, it’s okay. I let my child wear diapers and pull ups until he was 4-years-old. Why? Because he wasn’t ready. I sure was ready though. Believe me when I say I was so over buying diapers and pull ups. However, I learned that if my child isn’t ready, it was going to be hard and stressful. There was a light at the end of the tunnel, and eventually the potty training thing happened. When he was ready, it only took us 3 days for him to be potty trained. Try not to stress over potty training, mamas! It. Will. Happen.

4. Picky eaters:

Is your child surviving on crackers, peanut butter, mac & cheese, or goldfish? Is he/she hardly eating at meals? I will say this from experience because I live with 2 picky eaters (and one of them isn’t a child): if they don’t eat it, it could be because they are not hungry. Maybe they had too many snacks, or snacks close to meals. I can guarantee when they are hungry, they will eat, and I promise they won’t live on PB&J forever!

5. Dressing themselves:

Did they pick their clothes out and end up looking like they came out of the circus? That’s fine. If you think about it, they made their own choice and got dressed on their own. You win!

6. Wearing pajamas or only wearing undies at home:

Are pj’s all they want to wear? Or sometimes do they even prefer no clothes whatsoever? Amazing! That means the less laundry you have to do. Winning!

7. Extracurricular activities:

After much thought on this topic, this is what I think: try and involve your child in something that he/she likes. It doesn’t have to be something that you chose for them but something that they want to do instead. If they are interested in something take them to try it. If they like it, awesome! But if they don’t, just let them figure it out. I used to worry big time about my then 3-month-old needing swim lessons. Swimming is a great skill to learn but instead of spending that money on lessons, I got into the pool with my baby and started teaching swim essentials like blowing bubbles ( I was lucky I had access to a pool but if you don’t, the bathtub is a good place to start). When my kids were older, we practiced things like holding their breath in the water. As my kids continue to grow, if swimming is something they love, then I will sign them up for those lessons! Extracurricular activities are great and all, but discovering my child’s passions and talents in life is true winning!

I know someday, I will look back on the things I worry about today, and I will think how silly I was to waste my time worrying about something so simple. Most of the time life is simple, I am the one that tends to complicate it.

What do you worry about?
