If you haven’t been to We Rock the Spectrum recently, it’s time to go back! Inspired by their precious youngest daughter who has Down’s Syndrome, the owners of We Rock the Spectrum, Gwen and Richard Batchelor, have been working hard to expand their play equipment to engage children of all different abilities. Already an incredible resource for families with an autistic child, We Rock the Spectrum now has play equipment available for kiddos with any special needs!
With over 30 swings that are rotated regularly, there is something for everyone! There are swings for kiddos of all ages and all abilities! There are specialty swings for children in a wheelchair, varying swings for children who benefit from different types of sensory input, and swings adored by neurotypical kids as well.
Other new additions include therapy stairs for kids to practice on, short basketball hoops for parents to play with their kids, a new sensory slide, and several new toys to be played with at wheelchair-height! Don’t worry, though, your old favorites are still there for the playing, too. You can still visit We Rock the Spectrum and watch your kids burn off energy on the trampoline, zoom fast on the zipline, and let their imaginations run wild in the creative play section of the playground! Pay close attention to the creative play area-you will notice a new grocery store and vet clinic, too!
We Rock the Spectrum also offers a Calming Room for kiddos whose sensory systems may benefit from it. Painted in neutral tones, the Calming Room offers rocking chairs, books, aromatherapy, and dim lighting for children who need a minute to recuperate from all the sensory input outside of it.
We Rock the Spectrum is open 7 days a week for the general public, though hours vary, so it’s always a good idea to check their Facebook page before going.
What really sets We Rock the Spectrum apart, though, is their additional offerings for families.
Not only does We Rock the Spectrum offer private birthday party packages, but they also offer numerous classes throughout the week! From Yoga to Toddler Art and Sign Language classes to a monthly Parents’ Night Out, it is absolutely worth your time to check out all of these “extras”!
The owners of We Rock the Spectrum have a deep passion for the special needs community in the metro area, and it is evident in all that they do. They often work in conjunction with ABA therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists to not only use the space for different types of therapy with kiddos, but also to develop and improve the resources available at We Rock the Spectrum.
Also worth mentioning: the passion for serving the special needs community is a family affair at We Rock the Spectrum! Gwen and Richard’s oldest son offers private music lessons at the indoor playground for any child with special needs. Zed’s Practitioners offers lessons in piano, voice, percussion, guitar, and music composition.
We Rock the Spectrum is truly a place of inclusion, where children of all ages and abilities can learn, play, and grow together. If you haven’t been, or it’s been a while, go and experience what’s new for yourself! Your kiddos will thank you.
