Too Many Toys? Here’s the Answer

Every day, our kids are being bombarded with social media and TV ads about every kind of toy imaginable. Every day, your child is asking you to buy them another toy that will most likely end up at the bottom of the closet or toy box.

Sound familiar?

Of course, we all know that the bombarding doesn’t stop there. Your own inbox and social media feeds are jammed with ads about the latest toys and gadgets that your child “needs” to have. Parent guilt starts to set in, and your stress level goes from zero to infinity and beyond!

BUT WAIT… There is a better way.

We all want to see our kids smiling and happy, right? Toys are fun at the moment, but what if you could give your child experiences that will build memories that will last a lifetime? Experiences will stick with your children a whole lot longer than the most popular “toy of the moment”.

There are many different kinds of experiential gifts that you can give your kids. You can provide them with experiences that they can enjoy on their own with friends, or with the entire family. Experiential gifts involve you and your children creating special bonding experiences that your children will remember for a lifetime.

Experiential gifts can be customized in many ways. They can revolve around sports, hobbies, crafting projects, favorite books, etc. They can also be created as opportunities for your kids to try something new. Not sure how to create the perfect experiential gift for your kids?

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

1. Sign your child up for a monthly subscription box. Each month, they’ll receive a box in the mail that’s full of new activities to try.
2. Order a magazine subscription on a topic that your child is already interested in, or something that they want to learn more about.
3. If your child has a creative side, build a basket that includes items such as paints, crayons, paper, scissors, yarn, etc.
4. If your child enjoys the outdoors, create a scavenger hunt that the whole family can participate in with a surprise at the end.
5. Create a coupon book of coupons for things that your child enjoys doing with you. Your time is a priceless gift.
6. If your child is interested in animals, give them a membership to the zoo, an aquarium, etc. where they can visit their favorite animals over and over.
7. If your child likes to learn new things, sign them up for a class to enrich those interests.

I hope these ideas get your creative juices flowing, and you can start creating your own custom experiential gifts. Be sure to take photos of your kids and family while they’re having fun! Those photos will be a reminder of great times.
