These Four Walls

Lately, I have been contemplating life more. I think that just comes with having a new baby. I look at my current life and wonder if what I do on a daily basis means anything. Am I living my life to the fullest, I ask? What is my purpose here?

I think the answer to these questions is ever-evolving, but I do know that the most important matters happen within these four walls. The walls of my home.

The home where I returned after my wedding day.

The home where I found out I was going to be a mom.

The home where I spent 9 months on bedrest growing our sweet baby.

The home where I brought my daughter to, and just recently, my son.

And the home where I experienced first crawls and walks.

The work done in these four walls does have meaning.

Three meals and two snacks a day are served here (okay, let’s be honest: it’s more like 5,000 snacks, but who is really counting?) to nourish our sweet, ever-growing little ones.

Every day the dishes that have piled up in the sink are cleaned and put away, ready for the next day.

Laundry cycles through the washer and dryer more often than anything else around here to ensure the kids have something seasonally appropriate to wear. And with every new snack comes a new outfit.

The bathtubs that are filled with bubbles and giggles are cleaned regularly enough that the kids actually get clean when in there.

Floors are vacuumed and mopped so those tiny hands that go straight into their mouths aren’t filled with dog hair….at least not too much!

The home is adorned with children’s toys that we now call decorations, because people actually live here.

See, even if you don’t work outside the home or maybe you do, know that the mundane tasks matter the most. These everyday, ordinary things that happen here are done with love for your family.

To find your purpose, look no further than these four walls.
