The 10 Best Locations for Family Photos in OKC

Oklahoma City has a number of places that are just perfect for photo sessions and can provide a lot of entertainment (bribery) for the grumpy family members in your life.

Here are my top 10 favorite metro locations for fall family pictures.

1. Bluff Creek Park

The leaves are turning and the trees are abundant at this park. You can find a variety of excellent spots to snap those family pictures with the changing foliage in the background. There are a number of bridges, fields, and trails to give you variety in your shots. Bonus: this park is dog-friendly, so bring your canine family members along!

2. Mitch Park

If you live in Edmond, check out Mitch Park for your next family photo session. There are plenty of off-the-trail locations that are just perfect for family pictures. If you like the tall grass with the sunset in the background, this park is for you!

3. Downtown OKC

Sometimes you need to change it up from the typical hanging out in the park pictures, and downtown OKC has plenty of spots just for that! There’s nothing better than getting the OKC skyline as your backdrop for photos with that golden sun coming through from the west. My personal favorites in downtown OKC are Automobile Alley, the Paseo district, Midtown, Bricktown, the Sante Fe parking garage, and anything with Russell Westbrook in the background.

4. Myriad Botanical Gardens

If you want a little bit of the downtown skyline AND some of that park feel, the Myriad Gardens in downtown OKC are where you need to go. You can be sitting in lush green grass surrounded by trees in one shot, and in the next, to be standing on a brick pathway with the Devon Tower behind you.

5. Martin Nature Park

Martin Nature Park is perfect for families that are looking for a more wooded area with the occasional deer photobombing in your picture. There are a couple of bridges that are great for family shots, and some large open fields that are perfect for capturing those gorgeous Oklahoma sunsets. This park is one where you’ll have to leave your fur babies behind, though, because pets of any kind are prohibited.

6. Hafer Park

Hafer Park is another great hidden gem within the city. The ample trees provide lots of shade for those freakishly hot September days, and the trees always come through with beautiful fall colors. Another major perk of Hafer Park is that they have gorgeous tulips that start to bloom in the spring, which are perfect for spring outdoor sessions.

7. Lake Hefner

Another unique location that will give you something a little different than everyone else’s family pictures. Some of my favorite photography spots on the lake include the lighthouse, the boat docks, Stars and Stripes park, and on the rocks by the water. Schedule your family session an hour before sunset and you’ll get gorgeous golden light!

8. Wheeler District

Who doesn’t love a Ferris wheel? The wheeler district is a FUN and exciting place to get those annual family pictures updated. Not only can your bribe your little ones (and maybe your husband too) with a ride on the Ferris wheel after pictures, but you can also get some amazing shots with the Ferris wheel as your backdrop! There’s also the giant OKC letters that can provide a lot of entertainment while still being a great backdrop.

9. OU Campus

For all of you Boomer Sooner fans out there, the OU campus in Norman is absolutely perfect for family sessions! Wear your crimson and cream and show your OU pride!

10.  Will Rogers Park

Last, but not least, is Will Rogers Park. The gardens are so well-maintained and the colors are gorgeous. The greenhouse provides a unique indoor look that is definitely worth checking out!
