Stylish Mom – Spring Edition

Let’s face it, dressing as a mom requires clothing that is kid-friendly, but sometimes that means falling back onto old faithful of black yoga pants, a stained t-shirt, and workout tennis shoes or flats that are way past their years of wear and out of style.

Moms want comfort, flexibility, not too low cut, not too high cut, squatting movement friendly, stylish and not frumpy.

As you all know, and I have stated this before, you do NOT need to conform to EVERY dang trend that comes along, BUT you DO need to update your items every so often and ADAPT to this day in age for your style. Update the shoes for the season, update your jeans … please for the love of all mother kind, UPDATE YOUR JEANS! If you are NOT preggo, do not wear your maternity jeans, I don’t care how comfortable they are. Anyway … back to regular programming of this style post.

How do you meet this criteria with style and what do you need to get for this Spring season? Here’s your easy breezy answers and style pics to inspire you to create a version for you and your season of life.

1. Jeans

Did you know they make jeans that are flattering, comfortable, hold everything in and are under $100 for moms? They do and here are the 4 brands that you need to run to the store and get: Mac and Me, Democracy, JAG denim, and Just Black Denim.

Stein-Mart carries Democracy, Mainstream Boutique’s are the ONLY exclusive carrier of Mac and Me, JAG can be found at Nordstrom, Dillard’s, some boutiques and online, Just Black Denim can be found online and at some boutiques, and became popular through Stitch Fix (you can find them locally in OKC at Gil’s Clothing and Denim Bar in OKC and at Mainstream Boutique of Edmond).

Take the time to try them on, between these 4 brands you WILL find your perfect pair of Mom Jeans. Do not be afraid of the words HI-RISE, SKINNY, OR JEGGING. Fit and flatter over number and size. Let me repeat myself, FIT AND FLATTER OVER NUMBER AND SIZE. Get over it! It’s best to have a fit that flatters than being stuck on a number or size … please please please please meditate on this and let it become your shopping mantra. (NOT KIDDING) Also, do a legging update. There are all kinds out there now that are a “solid” but with some texture, update them. Reminder: FIT AND FLATTER over SIZE AND NUMBER!

2. Spring Tops where the line hits WAY UNDER the boob area

Get rid of those maxi dresses and tops that have  a line right under your boobs, they are not flattering. I will be that trusted friend that tells you now: It isn’t flattering and it draws attention to an area that you want minimized, and instead it maximizes it.

This is an easy one to show you and it’s self-explanatory. There’s not much to say except to stop wearing those tops and dresses that have a line right under your boob area. Truly. Update some of your t-shirts to new chatty tees with quotes, or a nicer fabric of a solid tee that doesn’t have baby spit up on it (it’ll be your “good” tee) Remember … fit and flatter over size and number. Wear tops that actually fit you in a flattering way, not too small and definitely not too big where you are being swallowed up.

3. Shoes for the Season

Take the time to buy at least 2-3 NEW pair of shoes for the season. Get rid of any that TRULY have had their fair share of time. If there is one thing other than jeans that I have my clients update it’s their shoe game.

Look at the current shoe status for the season and then ADAPT to what makes sense for you. Obviously your everyday mom wear isn’t going to be chunky heels or wedges, BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t get some flats that have the cut-outs like the current shoes, etc. Did you know that Pay-Less makes a line of shoes called Dex-Flex and Comfort Plus? Well, they do and they are priced well and are uber comfortable and stylish. Did you know that Toms makes flats and sandals with comfort and style? They do. Did you know that Adidas even has a line of tennis shoes that are meant for fashion and comfort called Cloudfoam? They do, and you should get some. You CAN be stylish and comfortable. (Specifically the Super Daily shoe from Adidas)

You aren’t broken, you aren’t frumpy, you aren’t style challenged. You know how I know this? Because your kids are dressed with major style and don’t even know the words frumpy or style challenged. Give yourself 15 minutes, use resources like Pinterest and literally type in the search bar “denim shirt spring outfits for moms” or “graphic t-shirt outfits for summer for moms” and a plethora of outfits will come up and inspire you. I assure you that you will be able to create a version from items you already own into a very Stylish Spring Mom Outfit.

You are worth your own time and it’s time that you took a style chance on yourself!
