There is SO much fun to be had in August!  Can you believe it’s almost time for school to start again?  We’ve listed area school start dates below and we’ve rounded up some great activities for your family!  $1 Way Back Wednesdays continues on at the zoo this month and so do weekly walk-ups at the Myriad Gardens.  Looking for some unique art?  Check out the Art Gone Wild show at the a.k.a. gallery in the Paseo district all month.  The show features art from the zoo’s animal artists!

August 1:

Rare Pair Consignment Sale at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.  $1 admission. 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Internet Cat Video Festival – Myriad Gardens Great Lawn 4-10 p.m. FREE event featuring food trucks, a beer tent, ice cream, face painting and, of course, screening the movie of the best cat videos the internet has to offer.

OKC Summer Jam – Star Spencer High School 3-9 p.m.  Music, games and a back to school backpack drive.  Kids 12 & under are free when accompanied by an adult.

Growing Community: Film, Food & Fun Series – 7-11 p.m. on the SixTwelve Lawn in the Paseo Arts District.

August 2:

Oklahoma City Dodgers: Family Sunday! Vs. New Orleans at 3:35 p.m.

Christmas With a Veteran Vendor Fair & Poker Run – 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Landing Zone in Midwest City.  Live entertainment, food, raffles & more! All proceeds benefit Christmas With a Veteran VA Fund which buys Christmas gifts for veterans in the hospital.

Back to School Bash – Capitol Hill Baptist Church – 4-6 p.m.  FREE School supplies, inflateables, games, food & fun!

August 3:

First Day of School: Oklahoma City Public Schools

Story Time at the Edmond Library 10-10:45 a.m.

August 4:

Billy Elliot  opens at the Civic Center.  Presented by Lyric Theatre – the show runs through August 8th and tickets start at $25.

OKC Energy Soccer vs. LA Galaxy 7:00 p.m.

August 5:

Myriad Gardens – FREE story time on the Sheridan lawn prior to the summer movie. 8:15-8:45 p.m.

Nature Play Group at Martin Park. Ages 2-6. Pre-registration required.

FREE Mini Model Build At the Lego Store at Penn square mall.  Ages 6-14.  Pre-registration required.

August 6:

Disney Magic III  opens at St. Luke’s Church.  Come see your favorite characters and hear your favorite songs as the Poteet Theatre brings Disney to life! Tickets are $25.00 and the show runs through August 16th.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs – $2 at the Warren Theatre as part of their summer kids series.  Movie begins at 10 a.m.

Charity Benefit for the Neighborhood Services Organization at Fox & Hound.  6-9 p.m.

August 7:

Tax-Free Weekend begins! Find more details here.

White Water Bay Drive-In Movie Night – Free with park admission or double-park season pass.  Movie begins after the park closes at dusk.

Paseo First Friday FREE First Friday Art Walk in the Paseo District 6-10 p.m.

August 8:

Myriad Gardens – Peculiar Pollinators in the Children’s Garden 1-2:30 p.m. Come learn about pollination and take a tour of the pollinator garden.  The lesson ends with a honey tasting!  Pre-registration required.

Family Day at the OSU Museum of Art – FREE admission and family-friendly art activities.  11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

August 9:

Oklahoma City Dodgers: Family Sunday! Vs. Colorado Springs at 6:05 p.m.

August 10:

White Water Bay Homeschool Day. Homeschooling families are invited to the park for a day of fun!

August 11:

Storytime at the Village Library 10:00-10:30 a.m

August 12:

First Day of School: Newcastle Public Schools, The Catholic School of St. Eugene

Myriad Gardens – FREE story time on the Sheridan lawn prior to the summer movie. 8:15-8:45 p.m.

August 13:

2nd Friday Art Walk FREE! Celebrating art in downtown Norman 6-9 p.m.

LIVE on the Plaza – Plaza District in OKC. 7-11 p.m.  Live music, special events and more as local shops stay open late!

Summer Shootout Barrel Racing August 14-16th at the Oklahoma State Fair Park

August 15:

OKC Energy Soccer vs. Real Monarchs SLC 7 p.m.

Heard on Hurd – Music, food trucks and more on the streets of Downtown Edmond.  6-10 p.m.

The Summer Show – Handmade, vintage and boutique vendors at the Dale Robertson Center in Yukon.  Fun for the whole family!

August 16:

August 17:

First Day of School: All Saints Catholic School, Bishop McGuinness High School, Sacred Heart Catholic School

Lego Club at Del City Library 4:30-5:30 p.m.

August 18:

First Day of School: Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools

Tinkering Tuesdays at the Midwest City Library. 6-7 p.m.

August 19:

First Day of School: Moore, Piedmont, Yukon, Noble Public Schools. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, Heritage Hall, St. Mary’s Episcopal School

The Gaylord-Pickens Museum offers a story and craft time and with $3 admission. Story time will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the craft  for families to enjoy together. Children 5 and under are free of charge.

August 21:

Blanchard Bluegrass Festival FREE! 6-10 p.m.

Midsummer Nights Arts Festival – 6-11 p.m. at Lions Park in Norman.  Art, Food vendors & kids art activities!

August 22:

OKC Amazing Pet Expo – State Fair Park, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  FREE and pet friendly!

The Village Lions Club Car Show – FREE to spectators.  Duffner Park

August 23:

Just Between Friends Consignment Sale begins.  The sale runs through August 29th at the Oklahoma State Fair Park

August 24:

Music Time at the Edmond Library.  9-9:45 a.m.  Babies 0-12 months

August 25:

Payne County Free Fair begins at the Payne County Expo Center

August 26:

First Day of School: Casady School

Unpluggits toddler time.  A story and crafts geared just for toddlers! 11-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration required.

August 27:

Myriad Gardens Astronomy Night.  8:30-10:00 p.m.  Join members of the OKC Astronomy Club for a night of star-gazing on the Great Lawn.

August 28:

H&8th 7-11 p.m in midtown.  Gourmet food trucks, live music, and more!

Piedmont Outdoor Movie Night  Movie screening, live music, food and more.  Free event but donations will directly support building a splash pad, playground, and park.

August 29:

OKC Energy Soccer vs. Austin Aztex

GloRun OKC – 5k or 1 mile fun run at Mitch Park in Edmond.  Races start AFTER DARK so wear your brightest colors!  Proceeds benefit The Recovery Center

Moore War Run Annual 5k supporting the students of the Moore School District. Race starts at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Moore.

August 30:

Uptown 23rd Farmers Market 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Little Big Chefs at Uptown Grocery.  Parent/Child cooking classes. 2-3 p.m. and 3:30-4 p.m. Pre-registration required.

August 31:

123! Play with Me! At the Belle Isle Library 10-11 a.m.
