New Year – Not New Mama.

With the new year upon us, I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about all the areas of my life that needed improving.

Be better at the laundry.

Be a better dog mom.

Be better at prioritizing.

Be a better blogger.

Be slimmer.

But the one thing not on that list is a better mom.

Not because I don’t think there are areas where I couldn’t improve (because, oh believe me there are) but because I know that who I am is who I am supposed to be.

Most moms may think they need to have more crafts, more play dates, more toys, more clothes, more baking lessons, more extracurricular activities.

More. More. More.

But instead what we need is to…

Be. Be. Be.

Be still and know they are watching.

Be inquiring of their little minds.

Be patient with their souls.

Be loving to their tender hearts.

I am the mom I was made to be.

I don’t need to be better looking. Be busier. Be more successful.

I simply just need to be me.

I would never ask my children to change themselves because I love them the way they are.

So why would I expect myself to become someone different? The simple answer is, I shouldn’t.

I should be the best version of me that I can be all year round for them.

Thankfully, one of the greatest things about children is that they forgive easy.

You may dwell on the fact that you haven’t taken them to the new hottest play place in town, but all they see is how exciting it was to sit in their pajamas all day and binge-watch Disney movies.

The look in their eyes when you put on the sunglasses they brought you should be enough to say that all they really need you to be is yourself.

Not a better version.

Not a slimmer version.

Not a more wealthy version.

Just you. In all your awesome mom glory.

Let yourself off the hook, mama. Pinterest ain’t got nothing on the mama they need you to be.

What are some of your goals for the new year that don’t involve redefining your motherhood journey?!
