My Mid-Del Summer Bucket List

The OKC metro has so many wonderful communities!  When my husband and I decided to purchase the house he grew up in, in Del City, I wasn’t really sure what the area had to offer, but I was excited to find out!  Summertime is one of the best times to live in the Mid Del area- or at least to pop on over for a visit!  As a resident of the community, I am cordially inviting you to join me in checking off my Summer Bucket List of Activities for the Mid-Del Area!thing to do in del city midwest city

  • Reno Swim and Slide This  is one of my favorite pool spots in the metro!  The pool is huge, and not too crowded (especially the first part of week days, so it’s the perfect pre-nap activity!).  It also has a wonderful area for kids UNDER 6 years old where parental supervision is required.  It’s definitely worth checking out, and if you love it- season passes are available.
  • Concerts in the Park  As a former band nerd, I looooove exposing my daughter to live performances of all types of music- which is exactly what this summer series offers!  You’ll find local concerts from musicians of all types, from classic rock to blue grass to jazz to big band!  There is literally something for everyone.  Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy FREE performances every Thursday night in June and July!
  • Sunset Cinema This is one of my favorite parts of summer!  Every Sunday evening at dusk, bring your favorite movie snacks, picnic blankets or lawn chairs, and enjoy a family friendly movie!
  • Joe B. Barnes Regional Park By far my favorite of our area parks, the Regional park has huge walking trails for my daughter to bike (trike?) through!  The playground is wooden and includes a “Tot Lot” for smaller park goers as well as misters to help your kiddos (and you!) stay cool.  There is also a Tasty Snow snow cone stand on site! (Be sure to bring cash or spend a $5 minimum for credit/debit purchases.)
  • The Creperie & European Cafe Yum! Yum! Yum!  Not only is this place WONDERFUL for breakfast crepes, but they offer savory lunch and delicious sweet crepes as well!  You can also find made from scratch soups and European dishes!  The owner is wonderful, and she has gone out of her way to accommodate families by providing a children’s play area in the corner of her cozy little restaurant.
  • The Museum of Osteology Do you have a future paleontologist in your house? America’s ONLY skeleton museum is right in our back yard.  This museum is perfect for your school aged child!  The museum provides a fun scavenger hunt activity to make it really interactive, and of course there is a fun gift shop on your way out!  If you have a little one who is missing school, and loves to learn- this might be the perfect destination for you!

Getting involved in local events, trying out local establishments, and meeting new neighbors are such important parts of creating a sense of belonging to your community!  What community activities do you look forward to during the summer? What’s on your bucket list?

Becky Walker
I fell in love with my husband, Dustin, when I was a wide eyed 15 year old. I have been a mostly loving wife since June 5, 2010, and a mom since February 16, 2012. I live right by Tinker AFB, and I have three little ones- Lyla, 6, Karrick, 2, and our bonus baby Juliet, almost 1 year old! Along with serving as Community Engagement Manager for OKCMB, I work part time from the closet under our stairs teaching English to Chinese students early in the morning! The most relaxing part of my day is when I drink my whole cup of coffee -HOT- while it’s still dark, and the rest of my house is still and quiet. During the day, the kids and I are out and about, exploring the city and avoiding the laundry. I do my very best to run a happy and healthy household for my husband and the little people God has entrusted to me.
