We love our mom of the month series! Do you know a special mom in our community who deserves some special recognition? Fill out the form and nominate a mom you know here! Thank you to True Sky Credit Union for partnering with us to provide a special gift to our Mom of the Month!

We are so excited to introduce our May 2019 Mom of the Month, DeLyn Richardson!

DeLyn was nominated by Christina Mushi-Brunt. Here’s what Christina had to say about her!

DeLyn is an incredible mother with two sons, one of whom is on the non-verbal side of the autism spectrum. DeLyn is a volunteer with the Norman chapter of Autism Oklahoma and is actively engaged in autism/disability advocacy and public policy work on behalf of Oklahoma families. DeLyn is a dance teacher at A Step Above Dance School in Moore, Oklahoma. The moment that I first realized just how special “Miss De” is, was during one of our daughter’s first dance classes in 2014. Her son was 4 years old at the time and was at the studio with her. He was having a rough moment, so she picked him up, put him on her back and effortlessly taught a portion of the dance class with her nearly 50lb son on her back. She exemplifies a mother’s love in ways that truly amaze me on a daily basis.

Let’s get to know DeLyn!

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

Two boys, Adrian (11), Cameron (8)

What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

My favorite thing about being a mom is how my kids simultaneously challenge me and yet fill me with such joy too. They are amazing little humans!

What has been the most challenging thing about being a mom?

The most challenging thing is questioning your choices and decisions as a mom. I’m always wondering if this or that was the right thing to do for my kids.

What could you not survive without as a mom?

I absolutely need my phone, my friends, and tacos. Tacos get you through everything. Hard day? Tacos. Time to celebrate? Tacos. They just never, ever let you down.

What is your proudest mom moment?

When my oldest son, who has dyslexia, began to read, and when my youngest son was finally at the point where he could play independently at the neighborhood park. Those were each such struggles, and to see my children overcome them was incredible. Everything in their own time.

DeLyn, we recognize you as one amazing mama! We hope you enjoy your gift card from True Sky Credit Union! Congrats on being our May Mom of the Month!
