Meet KC, Lauren & Miranda {New Contributors!}

We hope you have enjoyed reading through our new contributors this week! Up next, KC, Lauren and Miranda!

KC

KC is a Yankee who unsuccessfully attempted to earn a college degree at Michigan State University. Low and behold that was the best set back of her life. Mind you, at the time, the failure caused her much pain and soul searching, but found her driving down Interstate 44 to start a life in Stillwater. The 405 quickly became her home. Fast forward to a degree from Oklahoma State and a love for a man from southwest Oklahoma and you have the new and improved KC. She currently attempts to herd cats, otherwise known as being the mom of twins, affectionately dubbed Surround Sound. Couple that with husband that travels for work, a part time job, and a small herd of cattle and you have her crazy life. Her kids know how to say “please” and “thank you”, hold doors for others and wipe their own butts, thus she is sitting pretty in Piedmont.

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
A crab leg cracker. Just got home from the beach?

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
Gloria from Modern Family.

3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Where to start? Our city rocks. We love the summer movies in Bricktown. We cap it off with a trip to the “beach” they have. I love Family Day at the OKC Dodgers games. Cheap and so fun. I loathe baseball. I am fortunate that my duo can find fun anywhere…. Home Depot- smell the flowers, ride the mowers, check out the appliances. Sam’s club- eat a cheap lunch, watch part of a movie and wonder around. Maybe our new favorite is the Wheeler District.

4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
Simple. Raising cattle for kids to show in 4-H and FFA. The rewards they reap goes deeper than the scholarships. The teamwork, responsibility, love for life and sportsmanship are just the tip of the iceberg. The manners and self control one must have around cattle is something that can’t be taught with a computer. The kids learn about science while feeding them. They are a part of the small population that feeds the world. I could go on, but I will hop off my soapbox.

5. If someone met you for the first time, what is something you’d want them to know about you?
Upon first meeting someone I would want them to know I can sort out drama from reality and I can listen and learn. I love hearing stories from strangers, being there for people and seeing !or than one point of view. I might seem abrasive, but I am not.

Lauren

Lauren is a personal trainer, life and wellness coach, and currently just went back to work as a Teacher Assistant for Special Education. She has three daughters, ages 11, 10 and 7. They are a traveling family aka KruszinwiththeKrusz who are originally from MI and have been on the move for the last 7 years (OR to WA to FL to TX to OK). However, her and the girls are hoping to finally say that they may have found their home here in Oklahoma after moving here a year ago. When not doing the mom thing, she can be found at many local gyms, blogging, reading, traveling, exploring (adventures are a MUST), taking and posting MILLIONS of pictures, hosting parties, cooking (major foodie), hitting live shows (music) and writing a book as well starting a new business!

5. If someone met you for the first time, what is something you’d want them to know about you?
I am hearing impaired and have Ushers Syndrome which is a blindness condition. I don’t let it stop me from living my life instead it pushes me to do more! I am outgoing (shocker!), love to make people laugh and I love to DANCE! And we will ALWAYS take a Selfie when hanging out 😉

Miranda

Cassie Duffle Photography

Miranda is a Dallas native, though she has been in Oklahoma since 2001. She lives in Norman with her husband and four boys. Her kid’s ages range from preschooler to young adult, and her age ranges from “young at heart” to “I desperately need a nap”. Her background is in early education, but after one of her children was diagnosed with autism, she shifted more towards special ed and advocacy. When the moon aligns just the right way and she gets to sneak out of her boy lair, Miranda enjoys bopping around thrift stores with her friends, her semi-regular book club, random road trips, hiking, collecting old psychology books, board games, and finding an adventure in the small and mundane.

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
One of my kids shoes. That’s right, one. Long story short: three year old human.

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
Lorelai Gilmore is who I was at the beginning of my motherhood journey and Camille Braverman is who I aspire to be.

3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Library hopping and exploring the many parks and trails okc metro offers!

4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
Special Ed Advocacy by way of motherhood and hiking/exploring the outdoors.

5. If someone met you for the first time, what is something you’d want them to know about you?
I’m an introverted extrovert. I’m all about a fun adventure, but I need to know jammy pants are at the end of the rabbit hole.

We are thrilled to have these women join us on the OKCMB writing team!
