The BEST Ways to Shop on Black Friday

Black Friday Graphic

Black Friday is coming quickly! I love Black Friday! It’s basically like Christmas for me.

When I was a teenager, there used to be a store that would randomly give away $20 gift certificates to the first 20 customers. My mom would get my sister and me up at the crack of dawn. We would go wait in line in front of this store, each get a certificate and then my mom would take us to school for the day. After school, we would go back and do some shopping with our gift certificates. It might not seem like much, but $60 when you have two teenage girls is a big deal.

As you can imagine, Black Friday was a super fun day for us! The first Thanksgiving after I got married, I was asking if any of my in-laws would be interested in Black Friday shopping. My mother-in-law, who is always up for a little shopping, quickly agreed to go. We had the best time and is still one of my favorite Black Friday memories.

So what’s the best way to shop on Black Friday?

There are actually two different ways you can do this.

First, maybe you’re in the market for a big ticket item like a TV, fridge or a computer. The best way to go about getting a great deal on a big ticket item is to check out the website www.slickdeals.net. Also, get the Thanksgiving newspaper. Check out the stores and see who has the best deal on what you’re looking for. Also subscribing to different stores email lists are a great way to find out about the deals. Stores usually start trying to hype people up around the first of November. These are the deals that you’ll have to get up early or stay up late for, and you’ll probably have to wait in line. My husband and I got our TV this way. We got a GREAT deal and felt so satisfied as we spent the whole rest of the weekend watching movies. Black Friday is the best day to buy electronics. There really isn’t another time that you’re going to get a better deal.

The second way is to just hit up your favorite stores and see what kind of deals you can find. Here is a list of my favorite places to go.

Best Stores to hit up…Target

Target is great for cheap DVD’s and toys. I love to try to finish my Christmas shopping on Black Friday and Target has a little of everything.

Walmart

I LOVE Walmart for electronics! They have great deals and it doesn’t get as crazy as some of the electronic stores. This is where we got our TV and they always have great deals on tablets and PC’s.

old navy

If you wear Old Navy jeans, this is the place to be. We have scored jeans for $5 before. I convinced my husband to go and get some. I told him he didn’t even have to try them on. He tried them on later at home and the ones that didn’t fit I took back and exchanged.

kohls

I just like Kohl’s! They have toys, they have kid’s clothes, they have adult clothes and they have housewares. Plus they have killer deals!

These are my favorite stores, but there are a ton more that have great deals. Best Buy is good for electronics, Lowes is great for holiday decorations and there are many, many more!

I will admit that Black Friday hasn’t been the same in the last few years. The stores keep offering the deals earlier and earlier which makes the actual day somewhat anti-climactic. It can still be fun though. We love to hit up all the stores, swing by Target to pick up some cheap DVD’s and then head out to breakfast. Oklahoma City is a great place to do a little Black Friday shopping since everything is so close!

We consider it part of our family time! After all, the boys get football… can’t we have a little fun too? HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!

Carrie Gould
Hi OKC! I'm Carrie! My husband, Steven, and I met in college but never dated. Many years later, we reconnected and fell in love. After a whirlwind romance and gorgeous wedding I gave up my Texan status and moved to Oklahoma (he was worth it!) He spends his days on the road travelling all over the state of Oklahoma. We are the proud parents of our adorable 2 year old, Caroline and precious baby Benjamin. There is very little sleeping going on at our house. I am a music lover and a wannabe crafter. I am very good at following directions but not so great at creating my own masterpieces. I was a math teacher for 6 years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Before being a teacher, I worked in the actuarial field, which is what I am doing part-time now. As a family we work hard to live a simple life, create great memories, and love the Lord with all our heart. I am so excited to be sharing my family with all of you and connecting with other local moms!
