Life Hacks with Electronics

best apps for momsWe all like things that make our lives easier, right? Here are some tips and tricks I have found that help me with the use of electronics.

Let me preface this by saying this post is basically brought to you by my hubby. I mean I wrote it, and benefit from all of these things, but he is the brain behind all of it. Many times women have problems and just need their spouse to lend a listening ear. But these problems of mine needed a solution and he found one for me! I thought I would be kind and share them with you. You’re welcome!

Photo Uploads Hack

How many times have you wanted to print, email, or upload a picture but you can’t find it? Is it on your phone or your husband’s? Did you accidentally delete it? Was it on the camera? Making sure you’ve uploaded all your pictures in the appropriate place can be pretty annoying, but with these two things I think your problems can be solved! First is an app for your phone called Sweet Home that will upload your pics over wifi to your hard drive as soon as you enter your home. So if you’ve been at the zoo all day and taken lots of great shots, they will upload to your hard drive without you having to press a button as soon as you get home! The same goes for your camera, all you need is a special card called an eyefi card. I’m so thankful for these hacks so I always know where my photos are when I’m ready to use them!

Personalized Workout Hack

Are you the type of person that easily made time for a gym routine, but then found yourself in a rut after the kids came along? I’m raising my hand! With a newborn and five year old at home, I’m having a hard time managing family time around my favorite classes at the gym – specifically Zumba. On the days I just can’t make it, because there’s a fussy baby in my arms or a birthday party for quail eggs hatching in a kindergarten class (that really happened), I can get a work out in at home. Sure, I could use a DVD series, but I like something more familiar. Many of the Zumba routines my teachers use are from YouTube videos online. You can set up a YouTube account and add your favorite videos under a certain title, then you can play them all at once and voila! You have your own personalized workout with your favorite songs! Maybe it’s not as fun as shaking your booty with your girlfriends, but it’ll do until you can make it to the gym!

Baby Monitor Hack

Are you ever on vacation or at a friend’s house when you need to put the baby down for a nap, but don’t have a monitor handy and you’re afraid you won’t hear him/her? Not to sound cliche’ but: “there’s an app for that!” All you need is two phones and the Dormi app. A free version is available with a certain amount of minutes per month or you can pay a small fee for unlimited use. To listen at anytime you simply hold a button down or it will just alert you when there is noise so you can be notified. We had an extra smartphone that no one was using at our house, so that has now become the monitor phone. It can alert either mine or my husband’s phone as soon as we turn the app on. One less thing to pack for summer vacation!

I asked our contributors if there are any apps or electronics they find helpful in their everyday lives:

Carrie recommends the Total Baby app. You can record feedings, diaper changes, pumping sessions, and medicine dosages as well as keeping up with stats on height, weight, and percentiles. Super handy for those with newborns!

Maria likes the Sworkit app for her personalized workouts, WellSpent app for budget planning, and recommends the Make Every Day Count app for great family conversation starters.

Lindsay uses the Cozi app to help her and her husband stay on the same page with busy schedules. You can keep a grocery list and calendar with all the Dr. appts, events, and sports all in one place.
