Laundry Is My Nemesis

Add textOur laundry situation was fairly under control until we added a third baby to the mix.  I had help for about a week after my c-section, and after that I was completely on my own for most of the day. I gave everything my best effort, however, that’s the time when things started to get a little cray-cray.

I was exhausted and overwhelmed, and laundry was not a priority.  People would tell me, “Hold your babies, housework can wait.”  While this is true, laundry can only wait so long before it becomes a catastrophic event. I became queen of the classic “rewash the clothes because they never made it into the drier” act.

As much as I tried, I could not seem to keep up with the sheer amount of laundry that five people produced. Now, I’m not talking about the nasty dirty laundry here (muddy socks, urped on clothes, etc.).  The nasty things always seemed to make it into the washer. No, what I’m talking about is the everyday, run of the mill, worn once kind of laundry.  After spending much time trying to get caught up on the laundry, I quickly came to the realization that laundry, had in fact, become my nemesis.

10 Ways Laundry Is My Nemesis:

1. I had laundry creeping up in all corners of my house.  This is because my kids refuse to wear clothing, and if I do get them to wear clothing for five minutes, they will discard their clothes wherever they darn well please. How did a sock get in the pantry, and who put their pants on the lamp?  Why are there 5 shirts under the couch?

2.  I had a hamper full of clean baby clothes waiting to be folded and put away.  By the time I finally had a free couple of minutes to put them in the baby’s closet, I realized that the clothes had actually been outgrown.

3. Instead of spending a couple of minutes every day folding clothes, I would save them up and fold them marathon style, all while doing a little late night snacking and binge watching Real Housewives of Orange County.

4. I pinned hundreds of pictures of beautiful laundry rooms in hopes that maybe…just maybe I might find inspiration to tackle the dump that is now my laundry room.

5. I would search frantically for 30 minutes looking high and low for my favorite shirt. I would finally find it, after tearing apart my laundry room, hanging in my closet. Where it belongs.

6. I would feel motivated to tackle the laundry and would make the rookie mistake of attempting to fold the clothes while the kids were awake.  They would knock-over my neatly stacked piles for the eleventeenth time, even after I yelled like a crazy maniac calmly asked them to not run through the living room.

7.  I broke into a cold sweat when my new friend asked for a tour of my house because I knew my laundry room and closet looked like they had vomited their entire contents.  I just knew that her house would never look like that.

8. I sent this little gem of a text to one of my best friends because she is the only one who fully understood the disparity of my situation:

9. Finally my house was in perfect order.  I celebrated because this had not happened in approximately three months (okay five).  I walked in to check on my little angels playing so quietly in their rooms and discovered that, in their attempts to play dress up, they had dumped every article of clothing that they own onto the floor.  I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, so I did a pathetic mixture of both.

10. My closet was jammed packed with work clothes from years ago collecting dust, even though now ratty jeans and crappy t-shirts are more my thang.  In fact, my closet has become such a disgrace, it is now lovingly referred to as “where the hampers go to die”.

Is laundry your nemesis?  How do you manage to keep control of it all?
