3 Ways to Create Your Beautiful

A dear friend gave me this lovely card that says "Hello Beautiful" and I immediately put it in a frame.

A dear friend gave me this lovely card that says “Hello Beautiful” and I immediately put it in a frame.

I have a sign that sits on my desk and it says “Hello Beautiful”. I read it every morning and I hear the phrase in my head with a British accent. I’m a sucker for accents … I can’t help it. It’s much more fun to hear it in an accent than to just read it in a normal tone of voice. (You just read it in an accent, didn’t you?)

I have to admit, somedays I don’t feel beautiful internally or externally, and when I read this it helps me to put those negative feelings and thoughts in check. It reminds me that sometimes I have to “CREATE” my own beautiful.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time investing and believing in the word “find”. I appreciate a great and inspiring quote, but a lot of quotes tend to lean towards the word find, “find your happiness, find your beauty, find your inner child, find your dreams, find your passion, find yourself.”

We as women should “CREATE” all of those things and quit walking around aimlessly in our minds and hearts trying to “FIND” something that we can create on our own.

To quote the lovely Sweet Brown “Ain’t nobody got time for dat’.”

How do we do that? Here are three things that have worked for me.

1. Internally – I enjoy reading quotes on Pinterest that inspire me, or admiring something I see in nature that makes me stop and take in the moment. It helps when I meditate on a verse in the Bible, or read a chapter in one of my favorite books Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. Drinking a cup of hot tea or coffee while petting my dog and talking to my family creates beauty in my life. Yoga creates beauty in my life too, even though it makes me giggle. (I have to be honest, baby pose is hilarious and awkward.) CREATE your internal beautiful.

My Simple Abundance book. It's like a daily devotional. I love it.

2. Externally – My mother and grandmother always taught me to NEVER leave the house without some mascara on your eyelashes, a little bit of color on your lips, and a smile on your face. This ritual was ingrained in me, and I have to say, it really is a life changer. I don’t believe in vanity, but I do believe in caring enough about “you” to take time for yourself. Yes, even if that means swiping color on your lips before heading out the door. I cannot count the amount of times that I’ve had crying sessions in women’s bathrooms with some of my closest friends. After we’ve wiped our tears away, taken a deep breath, swiped on our color, and smiled in the mirror, this magical thing happens where you feel like you can conquer the world, well … at least the rest of your day. I absolutely encourage you to try it the next time a life meltdown happens. CREATE your external beautiful.

3. You – I am going to stand on my soap box real quick, bear with me. It breaks my heart when I see women forget who they were before they became a wife and mom. (Raising my hand: guilty of this!) You possess amazing qualities that make you beautiful inside and out. You’ve created tremendous beauty in your life as YOU, and I know that it can get lost in the hustle and bustle of life change when becoming a wife and a mom. Creating your own beautiful isn’t the easiest thing to do in the world, but you are completely worth the time and effort it takes to CREATE your beautiful.

What does beautiful mean?  Beautiful – pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically. Create – to bring something into existence, cause something to happen as a result of one’s actions. You are worth every reason and ounce of time to CREATE YOUR BEAUTIFUL, now go out and do it.

What will you do TODAY to CREATE your beautiful?

Love this! Many times I get so caught up in the rush of daily life and I forget to create beautiful for myself. Great reminders! And…. I think my accent ended up sounding more like a pirate. :/

      Maria,
I am so glad to hear that, and I am right there with you on forgetting to take a moment for just myself to create some beauty in my life. I stop and think, “If I am not giving myself some time then how can I be 110% for everyone else in my life?” Hey, a pirate accent is still an accent! Lol.
