2017 Guide to the Oklahoma State Fair

We've partnered with the State Fair of Oklahoma to bring you this resource! However, all opinions are my own.

It’s a highlight in many Oklahoman’s year – the Oklahoma State Fair! And this year is sure not to disappoint. My kids look forward to it, my husband and I look forward to it, my tastebuds look forward to it. Because, funnel cake and cheesecake on a stick. What’s not to love?

When is the Oklahoma State Fair?

This year the Oklahoma State Fair starts on September 14th and runs through September 24th, so there is plenty of opportunity to get your tickets and Fair on! There are also many discount days, so let me fill you in on those:

  • Thursday, September 14: Discount Gate Admission for Everyone!
  • Monday, September 18: Military Monday – Military personnel and spouses (Military I.D. required) receive FREE Outside Gate Admission; $3 JFK Exhibit Tickets; and $3 Sky Eye Wheel Ride.

Parking

There are two options for parking – paid and free! The free parking is located on the north and south sides of the fair. If you want to be close to the rides, park on the south side. If you want to be close to more of the exhibits, park on the north side.

The paid parking is closer to the gates and have access to 10th Street, May Avenue and Reno Avenue and is super nice if you have little ones in strollers.

Fair Fun!

There really is SO much to do once you get in the gates! And there are tons of new things for this year!

This year’s big Disney On Ice show is Follow Your Heart – which will include Finding Dory, Inside Out, Frozen, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Toy Story gang, Mickey, Minnie and more Disney friends! Tickets are on sale now HERE.

The Sky Eye Wheel provides a breathtaking view of the entire park, so jump on the Sky Eye Wheel! You can see up to 15 miles at the top of the 155 foot tall ride. It’s not to be missed!

In fact, if you are a thrill seeker, the rides are so much fun. My kids beg to go each year. And now until September 13, you can get discount armband deals for the Midway! We do this every year and is great for our littles to hop on every ride imaginable! More details HERE. They have an area for the younger kids, and then it opens up to the rides for older kids and adults!

If the Midway isn’t your scene, we love to go to AGtropolis, Oklahoma Expo Hall (which will feature a Barnyard Birthing Center) and Oklahoma Frontier Experience. AGtropolis is a hands on experience where the kids can learn about all things agriculture. There are baby chicks to see, butterflies, cows, goats and more! It’s not a petting zoo, but a whole farm-to-market experience! (If you are looking for the petting zoo, it’s located really close by!)

Just one exhibit at AGtropolis.

Oklahoma Frontier Experience is an interactive discovery zone where you will seriously wonder if you have stepped back in time! There will be demonstrations, shows and activities. There is an auto show, Clydesdales and other exhibits for you to enjoy.

And speaking of shows, there are lots in this years’ line up! The Zoppé Italian Family Circus is super family-friendly, and a nice break from the heat too! Other shows include live sharks, karaoke, and pig races, just to name a few.

But What About the Food?

Heading to the State Fair Park not only promises lots of fun with rides, shows and people-watching, but there is so much delicious food that you’ll want to come hungry! There is a coupon book you can buy to save while purchasing all your deep fried and food-on-a-stick indulgences. There is also an app that is easy to download for easy access to all things Oklahoma State Fair.

So there you have it! A crash course to the Oklahoma State Fair. We love to go and enjoy this every year as a family. Take your family and make some memories like some of the OKCMB contributors below!
