Does one of your fitness goals for 2016 include running or walking? Whether you’d like to complete your first 5k, run a race as a family, or push yourself to train for a long-distance race like a half or full marathon, here’s a look at some upcoming family friendly races in the OKC metro area:
On February 13th, check out the unique RiverSport Runderground. For this 5k, you actually run through OKC’s underground tunnels! The race starts and ends on the first floor of the Cox Convention Center. Race start time is 12:30 pm. Bring your family to this one, because children 12 and under have a registration fee that is $10 cheaper than adults! More information is available on their website: RiverSport Runderground
Head a little bit west of the metro to El Reno for the Wings to Fly Run on March 19. This race offers a 5k, a 15k or the non competitive Miracle Mile. There’s no charge for children in strollers! The first race begins at 9 am. You and your family are invited to enjoy the Historic Fort El Reno for free, as well as partake in free refreshments and entertainment. Proceeds from this event benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. To register for Wings to Fly Run, click here: Wings to Fly 2016
The Go Girl Run OKC promises to be “a true celebration of sisterhood and friendship!” On March 26, you (and your running crew) are invited to run through scenic parts of downtown OKC by participating in a 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) or a 5 k (3.2 miles). If you’ll be pushing a stroller, just get set up toward the back of the start line for safety. Grab some girlfriends (or your sister) and check out the info here: Go Girl Run OKC
2016’s Redbud Classic will be April 9 & 10 in Nichols Hills. This race has something for everyone! Events include: bike tours (10, 33 or 50 mile options), 1 mile kids fun run, 10k race, 5k race, 5k wheelchair race or a 2 mile walk and stroller derby. Join in the fun with this Oklahoma City tradition and see what it’s all about here: Red Bud Classic 2016
Run to Remember at the OKC Memorial Marathon on April 24, 2016 in downtown Oklahoma City. Events available are: 5K, 1/2 marathon, full marathon, marathon relay (5 person team) or the kids marathon (where kids keep track of running 25 miles prior to the race and then run the last 1.2 miles as a group-so cool!). Even the finish line is a fun place to be at the OKC Memorial Marathon, as you cheer on your friends and family, while feeling an overwhelming sense of community. Registration and other details can be found at their website: Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Personal note: I’ve just signed up my 7 year old daughter for the kids marathon this year. She’s been at the finish line for me at this race a couple of times, and this year it’s her turn to run, at her request. You can bet I’ll be at the finish line.
Let me know which race you’ll be participating in (in the comments below) and…who knows? You might even see me at the finish line, too, cheering you on.
I’m doing the Memorial Full – first full ever.. Eek!!
That’s AWESOME!!! I LOVE hearing that. You can do it. I’ll be there! May or may not see you, but will be cheering you on. 🙂
