Born to a father who flew in the Air Force, I grew up a nomad. I’ve lived in Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Germany twice, and this is my third time in Oklahoma City! I graduated from Texas Christian University in 2009 (go Frogs!) and commissioned into the military that same year. I met my charmingly funny husband while I was a bright-eyed Combat Communications Officer at Tinker AFB. I separated from the military in 2013 and now focus on raising our rambunctious and precocious two year old, Harrison.

Our family spent the last 3 years living in Germany. While stationed abroad, we toured to over 20 countries, that’s when I stepped outside my comfort zone and discovered my love of travel and adventure. You can follow my OKC adventures by following “OKCWoman” on Instagram or my blog, www.TheOKCWoman.com.

Aside from sharing my love for all things local, I’m a coffee addict and foodie who enjoys binge watching “The Great British Baking Show” and creating vintage wood signs in the garage studio while listening to my non-fiction audiobooks. My biggest love of all is my son, he challenges me everyday, while teaching me patience and unconditional love. Having him showed me the beautiful chaos that is motherhood, and I am so excited to connect and share with you all!

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
A stud finder that my son is currently obsessed with.

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
It’s an honest tie between Lorelei Gilmore and Lucille Bluth.

3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Story time at Whole Foods

4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
Coffee

5. If someone met you for the first time, what is something you’d want them to know about you?
I’m somewhat of an introvert. I can be very social in large groups, but it takes a lot out of me   Because of this, I have to have “me” time to recharge. I’m definitely more comfortable in a smaller group setting.

Heather

Cassie Duffle Photography

Heather is a museum educator and art teacher in Oklahoma City. She designs and leads gallery experiences for visitors of all ages at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and teaches art for toddlers and preschoolers at a local day school and at the Belle Isle Library. She has one son, Roger (3) and an aging dog, Amica (15). Her husband Jared is completing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at OUHSC.

When not balancing the demands of three part time gigs, writing, parenting, and housekeeping, Heather spends what little free time is left maxing out her library card, trying new recipes, gardening, art-making, traveling, listening to NPR, watching movies, and making the long drive back to Texas to see friends and family.

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
Post cards that I wrote to family and friends during our vacation to New Mexico but then didn’t mail because I couldn’t find stamps, they’ve been sitting in my purse ever since.

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
Even though she’s somewhat of an outlier on the list of T.V. mom’s I’m choosing Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. Not only do I relate to the character in many ways, I also see her as a woman who always wanted to be a mother but faced many challenges in making that happen. Spoiler alert, in the last season she adopts two children and realizes she’s been a mother figure to many of her friends and co-workers all along.

3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Any afternoon we get the chance, I like to take my son to one of our favorite cultural institutions: The Zoo, The Science Museum, Martin Nature Center, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, or our most frequent stop, Belle Isle Library, which is right down the street from our house.

4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
Art and Education, we need passionate advocates for both!

5. If someone met you for the first time, what is something you’d want them to know about you?
I like to share information, be it a good deal, a great book, an interesting article, or a life hack.
