Free Music in the Metro!

MusicYou don’t have to stretch your buck to have fun this summer in OKC. I know we’ve discussed the Free Fridays in the metro (and there is live music at most of those Friday events), but there are many more family friendly activities around our city that don’t cost a penny! This post is specifically about music experiences in the metro and I’d like to share a few of my favorites with you and provide a list of others that I hear are fantastic!

One of our families favorites is the Sunday Twilight Concert Series at the Myriad Gardens. Every Sunday night from 7:30-9:00 you can bring a picnic blanket to the lawn and enjoy a variety of different musicians. My daughter loved to be right up close to the stage last year so you could always find us towards the front while she danced and somersaulted along to the jams. We often went with friends so our kids could play or we could even enjoy a card game or board game during the concert. During intermission there is the kids playground nearby to enjoy, the splash pad, or just a walk around the gardens to enjoy the views or feed the ducks. Noon Tunes is another free event that is hosted at the downtown library on Thursdays during May and June. If your spouse works downtown this is a great place to meet up and enjoy a lunch break together. When the concert is over (or if your kids can’t handle the concert that long) then the children’s library is right there to peruse the books, puzzles, and train table. Click here to see the full Noon Tunes lineup.

First Thursday on the Classen Curve is a family event hosted on the first Thursday evening of every month and features lives music along with other family friendly activities like bounce houses, face painting, and artists. Each month is a little different so check out the website to see what’s happening at the next one! Not only is this event fun but there are so many great stores and restaurants in this area. You can tag team whose on kid duty to peruse the racks at Anthropologie or pick up that item you forgot on your grocery list at Whole Foods.

If you don’t live in the metro and would rather not venture out too far from your neck of the woods, check out one of these events on the outskirts of town. Or go all out and drive to all of them! For the full information click on the link!

Katie
Katie left her home state of Tennessee to come pursue an interior design degree in Oklahoma fourteen years ago. She met a handsome young fella from Oregon while in school, and they decided to marry and settle down in OKC. A dog and two daughters soon followed. She has been a textile designer, showroom merchandiser, custom furniture draftsman and children’s minister, but her most challenging and favorite role has definitely been that of a mother. You can read about the adventures she shares with her family at Strawberry Ruckus. Katie enjoys reading, being creative, exploring old houses, eating peanut butter, zumba and watching complete television series all at once on Netflix.
