Cold Weather Accessories Your Kids Will LOVE

admin-ajax

The time of year has come when t-shirts and sandals have been packed away and I’m hunting down last winter’s hats. The days are shorter and all I want to do is cozy up under a thick blanket on the sofa. However, kids still want to play outside to explore for pine cones and play tag. And don’t forget about school recess. Kids need some cold weather accessories to keep them warm. But, if your kids are anything like mine, they hate the layers of clothes that winter brings. It’s a struggle to find things that aren’t itchy, or too hot, or too cold, or tickle them. The list of complaints goes on and on! So, I’ve come up with a few tried and true cold weather accessories that seem to help our days go a little smoother.

fingerless gloves

1) Old Navy 2) Walmart  3) Amazon 4) Target

Fingerless gloves are top on my list. As a mom, we all can share in the pain and annoyance of trying to help little ones fit their chubby fingers into gloves. Mittens are great for the wee little ones, but as kids grow and become more independent, gloves are wonderful. With gloves, they can use all 5 fingers to help buckle their seat belt and they can attempt to button their coat. Now, imagine having fingerless gloves on your child’s hands. Amazing! These gloves are so much easier & quicker to put on, plus some even come with flip tops that will cover up fingertips if needed. Fingerless gloves are our go-to gloves this year that my girls will be able to put on by themselves and wear daily.

Elbow Snow Gloves

1) One Step Ahead 2) Target 3) Amazon

As I was searching online for gloves, I found these gems. I have no experience with this glove style, but can hardly believe that they’d be an awful asset to any snow loving kid. My girls love playing in the snow, but after a mere 3 minutes, they are banging on the door to have me help them fix their gloves. They always get snow inside of them or they fall off. It makes snow fun, no fun. Elbow length snow gloves could take a bit more time to put on your child, but seriously – it usually takes half a day to get my children dressed and ready for playing in the snow, so what is an extra 3 minutes?

Ear Covering Hats

1) Carters 2) Target 3) Target 4) Old Navy

Ear infections are my nemesis. My big girls have had so many over the few years in their lives that I’ve lost count. And with a baby about to experience her first winter, I’m all prepared with cute hats that will cover her ears. I honestly have no idea if covering ears while outside in the cold is helpful to fight ear infections, but I can assume that it has to at least help from the cold wind that blows. I’ve also noticed that ear covering hats tend to stay on kids heads better too! That’s a definite plus in my book.

Coat Alternatives

1) Carters 2) Walmart 3) Old Navy 4) Gymboree 5) Target

Please tell me that my kids aren’t the only ones that hate coats?! Especially my 3 year old. She hates them. I can convince her to wear it for a few minutes, but at her first chance to rip it off, it’s on the ground. The nice thing about an Oklahoma winter is that we do have some nice days mixed into the freezing cold days. With this in mind, I get my girls at least one warm vest (with pockets) every year. Vests are a wonderful way to keep your kids warm when it’s not freezing cold and you are running in and out of the car during the weekend. As I was do some online shopping, I came across this adorable girls poncho. How perfect! My girls might wear something like this because of it’s resemblance to a cape – aka – dress up! As a mom, we all know that babies and coats don’t mix well, so a thick, warm blanket is a must for little ones that will be in baby carriers this winter!
